Australia Day - 26 Jan 2011

My previous posts have all been about Shannyn. While I may have pleased some, I may also have bored some. Yes, I can 'hear' or sense it. So here is a post about my MC on Tuesday.

Yesterday (Wed) was Australia day. It was a public holiday in Australia.

The day before, I was sick (nose bleed, cold shivers, slight temperature) and had to take a day off work. I simply felt like sleeping, sleeping and more sleeping.

Usually, I would just tell my boss and it would be fine. This time, my boss said that I needed a medical certificate and the reason was that it was right next to a public holiday. I don't think there is such a policy really. Maybe there is but I guess it may be at the discrepancy of the boss.

Oh well, since she needed that, I had no choice but to drag myself to the doctor's.

And to make matters worse, Shannyn refused to go to childcare as she knew that I was at home. She pretended to sleep as Sean tried to wake her up. She later admitted it and even tried to pretend to pretend to sleep.

Today, Shannyn developed a runny nose. I wasn't sure whether it was me who passed her the virus or did she get it at the clinic (I had to bring her along to the clinic). Or could it be from childcare.

Felt so tired today but luckily it is a short week. Just one day more to go before weekend! How I wish I get to sleep in this weekend!

Things we like

We like to eat ice cream during summer.

We like to play with hair accessories.

Shannyn: NOoooo, don't take me!!

"SNAIL" - Shannyn's version

This is a clip of Shannyn pronouncing the word snail.

She says it differently from how Sean and I say it.

She pronounced it as 'SNAR-I-EL'.

Apparently, she has picked up a bit of Aussie accent here.

Shannyn on the phone

Shannyn talking to mum on the phone. It's quite adorable when she told me that "Jiu Jiu and Jiu Ma" were coming home for dinner!

What do we play at home?

My MIL asks us what we play at home with Shannyn. Here are some of the things we play with her at home.

We play taking photos. She likes to pose while I take her photos.

Another pose!

We play reading. She loves to read. Every two months, we go to the library and borrow more than 10 books each time. We can only borrow the books for 4 weeks and we will renew the lot for another 4 weeks and that amounts to 2 months.

Sometimes she reads on her own, sometimes I read with her.

Shannyn loves to play drawing and painting.

See her messy drawing which she obviously is proud of!

We also play 'Fashion Show'. It is a new toy that dresses up mini models, with mini clothes, mini bags, mini shoes and other accessories on a felt board.

A wide range of felt clothes for her to choose from.

One of her 'creations'. It just gets better!

Drawing Hobby

Shannyn loves drawing and colouring. Mum tells me that she draws everyday!

Above: Shannyn drew the pictures using the stencils. Quite nice I would say.

Shannyn's 4 new achievements

Shannyn has grown so much these few months.

Since last night, Shannyn has been having fresh milk instead of formula milk. Before that, she was resisting fresh milk till yesterday.

Last night was also the first night she went to sleep without nappy and did not pee in her bed. Hopefully she can keep it up! And she is not wearing nappy during afternoon naps.

She has not been wearing nappy for 24 hours since last night. Will try to let her sleep without nappy again tonight.

This afternoon, she had an afternoon nap by herself without needing me to pat her to sleep. That really saved me some time to do some laundry and housework!

She has also learnt and can also recognise signs on the toilets. She now knows which toilet to go to for girls vs boys.

Having said that, she is still a very small kid and wants Mummy all the time, especially at night.

I wonder when I can teach her cooking so she can help me cook. That will really save me a lot of time!!

3 years, 1 month and 1 day old

As I was creating a new ticker for Shannyn, I realised that she was 3 years 1 month and 1 day old on 14 Jan.

Bye Bye Cot

Recently, we dismantled Shannyn's baby cot. As it was a baby cot, we had to carry her in and out of the cot. Or she could actually climb in and out herself which was not safe. The side bar was rather high and couldn't be removed.

Now we placed the mattress on the floor and she can rest on her bed whenever she feels like it.

And in the middle of the night, she could just climb onto our bed and sleep with us.

This meant less fear and less cries too.

Shannyn happily posing on her 'new' bed.

Sean removing the bed frame from the room...

One night, we found Shannyn sleeping on the floor. She had fallen off the bed and hugging the mattress with her arms and legs as if it was her bolster!

Lakes Entrance Holiday - 28 to 30 Dec 2010

We went to Sale and Lakes Entrance during the X'mas break with parents. Here are some photos to share. I have some time to upload them this morning, while parents are still here to play with Shannyn.

This is one of my longest post ever with more than 30 photos!!

From Misc

On the way to Sale and Lakes Entrance, we passed by a long beach called the '90 mile beach'. It is the longest stretch of beach I've ever been to!

Stairwell up to the carpark.

Parents and Shannyn walking up the long flight of stairs.

This photo was taken by Shannyn. As you can see from the lower level the photo was taken from her height. Quite well-taken, at least it contains all of us in it!

We were taking a photo of parents when Shannyn ran over to them and popped her head up, just in time when Shannyn was snapping the photo.

Beautiful sunset outside our motel.

Shannyn posing with mum outside our motel room.

Shannyn posing as I took an impromptu shot of her. See the packed car boot. It was only a 3 days 2 nights trip but we brought lots of things along! Too much. We even packed half a box of instant noodles (kiasu) and yep, we did not eat that at all.

After I took the previous shot, Shannyn insisted in taking a photo for us. So this was taken by Shannyn. She is really getting the hang of it in taking photos for us.

At Metung town where we hired a boat for an hour... just for the fun of it. We had never drove a boat and did not need a license to do it here!

At the Metung town having lunch.

Waiting for lunch to be served.

Shannyn took this photo for us. Quite good right?

A bit distored image above of Shannyn holding on to a new fishing rod.

Here we are, driving our hired boat out to sea!

Kids under 10 have to wear the ugly bright-coloured life jackets.

We saw some swans as we were heading back to the boat's parking bay.

We saw some jelly fish at the boating area. Absolute beauty!

Sean and Shannyn rowing a boat. We got a small inflatable boat from Kmart and brought it to Lakes Entrance.

Above: Sean had rowed the boat quite far away from shore. Dad checking out the sand at the shore.

Above: Shannyn playing with sand at the Lake.

Above: You can see a tiny water entrance. That is the entrance to many of the lakes around the area, hence the name Lakes Entrance.

Posing out from the car's sun roof.

Shannyn drinking from a water cooler.

Walking down to the beach at Venus Bay. There were numerous beaches there, we went to Beach no. 2. It was a decent 5 minutes walk down.

On our way back, we went to Venus Bay beach to catch 'Lala' (aka clams). Lala live at the seashore and are easily caught simply by digging them out out of the sand.

Above: See dad with a full load of clams.

Clams for dinner!! Pan-fried with chilli and garlic!
